Senior Design Project
Tasked with solving a vibration defect found in the frame of a unique sorting machine that utilized a rotating magnet to create eddy currents deflecting ferrous metals towards a separate path for recycling.
Developed a simplified lump-mass model of the frame to validate the deflection experienced in the real world.
Utilized ANSYS finite element analysis to model static deflection and the dynamic load created by the spinning magnet to locate points of high force transmissibility in the frame.
Designed a modification through testing that would stiffen a critical component underneath the mount of the spinning magnet, reducing peak vibrations below the safety threshold.
