Led a team to develop a proposal for a theoretical wind turbine including selection of construction site, schematics for mechanical components, and justification for decisions based on technical analysis.
Analyzed local wind conditions to determine the maximum stresses caused by high-speed wind gusts.
Designed high-quality power transmission/gearing to avoid fatigue failure during operation with a safety factor ≥ 2.
Drafted support tower dimensions to avoid buckling while minimizing the surface area to avoid wind drag.
Fluid Mechanics
Created a program using Matlab that took user-inputted data and instructions about any given piping system and through recursive calculations recommend various parameters such as pipe diameter, pump speed, flow rate, etc.
Analyzed a given specifications sheet for a generic pump to develop optimization formulas to find peak efficiency for any conventional pump.
Collected information on material costs to recommend the lowest cost given initial system requirements.
